The Challenge: Moral Trauma on the Frontline
The newest COVID-19 challenge for Canada focuses on moral injuries to Frontline Workers and First Responders.
This is a rare Grant opportunity for conducting research by the Canadian Defence Research and Development Agency through the IDEaS program.
This challenge is seeking new ways to diagnose, prevent and treat the moral injuries left by providing care during a worldwide pandemic.

The Innovation for Defence, Excellence and Security (IDEaS) program is looking for solutions that help resolve defence and security challenges. Since its launch in April 2018, IDEaS has been posting challenges and awarding Grants for the Canadian Innovation Community.
Current Issue
COVID-19 is leaving an indelible toll on frontline workers and the health care system. Much of this toll is unseen and undiagnosed, as health care workers grapple with moral dilemmas over life and death that leave lasting impacts on their mental health.
Desired Outcome
Evidence based research and strategy methods for the prevention of moral injuries and/or treatment therapies to reduce the potential impact of moral dilemmas on frontline workers mental health.
The development of models to help in predicting and responding to risks and development of critical models of disease prevention and psychological, neurological and endocrine intervention models for responding to risks.
Canada needs innovative solutions to these challenges.
Does your research address these issues?
Although the initial funding is up to $200,000 – typically many projects are extended through additional phases and could potentially provide funding for up to $5 Million dollars. We are pleased to see that the Federal Government is supporting research efforts by providing funds to help in this cause.
If you can help protect our Frontline Workers from Moral Trauma – this would be great news for the frontline individuals affected, their patients and for the overall well-being of all Canadians.
